You know how the Holy Spirit brings a Scripture to mind and He keeps on placing that Scripture in front of you in various ways. And you finally relent and say, “Yes, Lord!” mmmmhmmmm…I know you know what I am talking about, and if you don’t, just wait, it will happen. The Lord has been speaking to me ever so gently, “As a sheep before shearers is dumb, so He opens not His mouth.” Isaiah 53:7. Well slap me three times again!!!
At first, it was “a sheep before the slaughter” that came to mind. And I was like ok, I hear You. I am going to do this. I am going to just ‘take it’.
THEN, it was, “a sheep before the slaughter…not saying a word.” I was like wait what!? I can’t take it and scream and complain about it. I mean I AM GOING TO BE SLAUGHTERED!!! Nope!! THEN, as I became more and more curious (it would seem to a fault), I looked (yes, because I didn’t really want to READ IT, in case there was SOMETHING ELSE I was gonna need to do). So I looked at the verse… AAANNNNNNNDDDDD, there it was, or is- “As a sheep before her slaughterer is DUMB”. In other translations, it says, “is silent” and the Message paraphrase “Like a lamb taken to be slaughtered and like a sheep being sheared, he took it all in silence.” He, my Jesus became like His Sheep! …Dumb! Just let that sink in for a minute. He became what we are in order for us to become like HIM!
[It is lofty to THINK, let alone believe, that we are truly sacrificing anything for our Lord. Just laying there and taking it, grumbling underneath our breath- is not the Way of the Cross! Walking the hard path with an enchanted heart of pride, hidden by good deeds- is not the Way of the Cross! Suffering without love- is NOT the Way of the Cross! Hebrews 12:2 says, “looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”]
Dumb! Was Jesus DUMB! By ALL MEANS NO! He was not dumb, but I am sure He appeared that way being the Lamb of God, yet under the hands of mere men, slaughterers. As sheep walking slowing down the path, one by one, they don’t fight, they just follow. Even after the sheep in front of it is sheared and slaughtered, it just keeps a going. Dumb! So, did Jesus. He walked, knowingly, the path to the hill on which He was to be crucified. Before His walk to Calvary, He stood before Pilate, Herod and Caiaphas and did not say a word. But Jesus was Wise and perfect. Spurgeon invites us to consider “Our Savior’s PATIENCE” as Jesus stood before the shearers. He was not dumb by our definition of the word. He was Patient before the crowd (His mockers) as they cried “Crucify Him”. He was silent. And He took it ALL. (Selah)
Ok. Back to ME!
Although, I’d love to cry “Poor Tamika” but, I can’t.
I can NOT!
I am learning that my complaining and ‘poor me’ sentiments are not by any means sacrificial or patient, or loving or the Way of Jesus. It only serves ME. But, OH, how I long to be like my Savior! Loving and Patient and Kind. The more and more I follow Him and look at Him and think on Him, I see much more clearer what God has wrought in our Lord; a tender, sweet, kind and patient Savior, Lord and Friend, who has set the Example for me. I am learning what He wants to do in me. In us. So I too, become dumb that, others may come to know Him as I do!
Are you Dumb? Join me in learning to be Dumb!
